What it does

12 capabilities across imaging, conversion, extraction, templating and deck operations.

Imaging

Render slides to images

PNG/JPG at any scale, plus thumbnails, animated GIF, and contact sheets.

Imaging

Encrypted decks

Password-protected .pptx files render throughout via the password= argument.

Conversion

PDF export

Rasterize a full deck to a single PDF at any scale.

Conversion

Markdown round-trip

to_markdown() extracts titles, bullets, tables and notes; from_markdown() builds a deck.

Extraction

Text, tables, images

Structured extract_text / extract_tables / extract_images plus extract_metadata.

Templating

Text replace + watermark

replace_text() with optional regex and add_watermark() for drafts.

Deck ops

Merge, split, reorder

merge(), split(), delete_slide() and reorder_slides() operate on whole decks.

Rendering

Full DrawingML pipeline

All 187 preset shapes, freeform paths, nested groups, rotation/flips and alpha compositing.

Rendering

Theme + inheritance

Slide → layout → master → theme colour and placeholder-style resolution.

Rendering

Text engine

Fonts, size, bold/italic, colour, wrap, alignment, anchors, bullets and numbering.

Rendering

Tables and native charts

Grid, fills, borders and cell text; clustered column, line and pie charts render natively.

Portability

Bundled fonts

Ships Carlito (≈ Calibri) and Liberation Sans (≈ Arial) so bare containers render real glyphs.

Fidelity, measured

Fidelity is measured by per-slide SSIM against PowerPoint's own renders, on a 146-slide corpus of real business decks, gated in CI so a regression fails the build. pptx-raster matches Aspose.Slides and beats Spire.Presentation, which fails to load some decks outright.

Aspose.Slides (commercial, ~$1,000/dev)
0.878
pptx-raster
0.860–0.878 per deck
Spire.Presentation (commercial)
0.50–0.84, fails to load some decks

Benchmarked on 29 July 2026 against a 146-slide corpus of real business decks, scored by per-slide SSIM versus PowerPoint's own renders. Competitor versions and prices were checked on the same date and may since have changed — verify current pricing with each vendor before comparing.

How it compares

Against the two commercial libraries developers most often evaluate for the same job. Figures as at 29 July 2026.

What it does not do

The renderer never throws on unsupported content — SmartArt, OLE, gradients, shadows/effects and WordArt degrade to a labelled placeholder and report a warning, so you always get your images.
